Typhoon Haiyan swept through the central Philippines on Friday 8th November, causing catastrophic damage. It has been one of the strongest recorded storms ever to hit land. The UN has estimated that at least 11 million people will be affected by the 300 mile wide typhoon and the sad news that the death toll has risen to over 3000 means that a huge international relief operation is underway.
As the World unites, we recognise the need for this region to re-establish communications and receive important information is more crucial now than ever. But with roads blocked and infrastructure destroyed, it is hampering efforts to distribute to those in need.
Paul Jenkins of the British Red Cross, one of the DEC’s members said “The priority was to get goods and supplies to those most in need as quickly as possible”.
The team at BW Broadcast have been working with our UK distributor, Broadcast Warehouse to see what we can do to help. We have products from both companies which have been taken over to the Philippines this weekend to help this community come together during this difficult time.
One customer will be taking a TX300 V2 FM Transmitter and Ubiquiti NanoBridge Links to help the local members of the International Association of Women in Radio and Television. They are building temporary/mobile community radio stations in affected areas of the storm surge, locally known as Yolanda. They have no resources, only skilled people willing to give their services to the affected families.
With this local partner on the ground, in the coming weeks we will be in constant contact with them to make sure we can assist with all their critical needs. We are continuing to compile what we have in stock so that it is ready to ship as soon as it has been established what they need.
We are happy that we are able do something that will go a little way to help these people rebuild their lives. If you would like to help out then please use the link below to find out more.Help Now
